Non-Senior Care

Before Mandy was born, Joe and Lois knew they had a special child with special needs. Mandy was diagnosed with Down's Syndrome while Lois was still pregnant. But Mandy's condition has never affected her determined spirit and keen sense of independence. As she entered her twenties, it was this independence that allowed Joe and Lois to help their daughter to move into her own apartment a few blocks away. Mandy's parents knew that she needed a little more supervision and assistance than a typical young adult. They also knew that Mandy would become defiant if she felt her parents were checking on her too often. That's why Joe and Lois introduced Mandy to Erica.

Erica is a Right at Home caregiver that stops by Mandy's apartment to make sure that she doesn't need anything and that things are going well. Mandy loves Erica's visits. The two of them visit for a couple of hours every few days while Erica helps Mandy with things around the house or takes her shopping. The whole experience has strengthened the relationship between Mandy and her parents, as well.

Right at Home provides numerous companionship and housekeeping services to Mandy, including:

  • Safety supervision
  • Companionship
  • Helping with hobbies and crafts
  • Reading aloud from books, newspapers and magazines
  • Transportation
  • Bringing in newspaper/mail
  • Playing cards/games
  • Grocery shopping
  • Light housekeeping

Our mom received the highest quality care. We knew she was safe and happy when her companion and her PSW were there. Staff genuinely cared about our mom's welfare and interacted with her so well that she was always cheerful and laughing during their visits. Staff were caring and always communicating with the family. On our mom's birthday, her companion made her day extra special for her. She helped mom pick out a lovely sweater and earrings. She spent lunch time with our mom and they ate outside on the patio and enjoyed sunshine and the fresh air. Later on friends dropped by to visit mom and her companion made them all tea. It was a happy and very special day for mom thanks to the thoughtful details added into her day by her Right at Home companion. Wonderful staff at all levels who made mom feel very comfortable and gave us (her children) some much needed peace of mind!
