Client Directed Home Care (CDHCI) with Right at Home

What is Client Directed Home Care?

The Client Directed Home Care Invoicing (CDHCI) Program is an Alberta Health Services (AHS) and Alberta Blue Cross initiative that lets eligible clients direct their own home care. Through the program you can receive publicly funded home care from an approved private provider like Right at Home, up to a set number of hours approved by AHS each month.

AHS approves your monthly hours and Alberta Blue Cross administers the program. Right at Home is an approved CDHCI vendor, so you can choose us to deliver your care and we submit the claims to Alberta Blue Cross on your behalf. That means you receive Right at Home's award-winning care with your approved hours covered by public funding.

What This Means for You

  • We bill Alberta Blue Cross directly for your approved hours, so the process stays simple for you and your family.
  • You get our Care Planner managed services without the burden of hiring caregivers as employees or handling the related paperwork. We take care of employment, scheduling and administration.
  • You receive in-home care from one of Canada's top home support organizations. Right at Home has been providing customized senior care and home care for over 20 years.
  • At Right at Home your caregivers are part of your Care Team. There is no revolving door of Personal Support Workers and Nurses. With help from your Care Planner you choose your caregivers and get to know them, which leads to a level of care that is unsurpassed in our industry.

What Services Are Covered?

Your services are based on your Home and Community Care assessment and may include:

  • Personal care, such as help with hygiene, dressing, toileting, mobility and transfers, medication assistance and other scheduled care tasks
  • Homemaking that supports your health at home, such as cleaning bathrooms, cleaning mobility equipment and incontinence laundry
  • Respite care, so your family caregivers can take a break when you cannot safely be left alone

How Do You Qualify?

You may be eligible for CDHCI if:

  • You have a valid Alberta Health Care number and live in a community setting
  • An Alberta Health Services Case Manager has assessed you and determined that you need home care and that this model is a good fit
  • You, or a family member acting as your CDHCI manager, are willing to help direct and monitor your care

You do not need an Alberta Blue Cross plan to qualify.

How to Get Started

  1. Call Alberta Health Services at 811 to request a home care assessment. A family member or health professional can also call on your behalf.
  2. An AHS Case Manager will assess the person needing care and determine the approved hours.
  3. Once you are approved, Alberta Blue Cross confirms your monthly hours and provides your customer number.
  4. Choose Right at Home as your provider and your Care Planner will take it from there.
